Matthew Kinross-Smith
Matthew has a diverse legal background. After graduating from the University of Melbourne, he began his legal career in 1990 with a major national firm in Melbourne. He later earned a Master’s degree in International Law and spent six years working on international treaty matters for the Commonwealth Government. In 2002, he returned to private practice in Geelong, where he grew up. Matthew is also an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Law.
With extensive experience in commercial and business law, Matthew advises clients on business sales and acquisitions, structuring business entities (including partnership agreements, shareholder agreements, and unitholder agreements), and property, building, and planning law. He also specializes in lease preparation and leasing law, trusts law, and succession planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Medical Treatment Decision Maker documents.
In addition, Matthew has expertise in franchising and employment law, providing advice on compliance and drafting employment agreements. He has also advised on intellectual property, insolvency, insurance, consumer law, tax and stamp duty, mortgages and guarantees, and occupational health and safety. Earlier in his career, he gained experience in criminal and family law, further broadening his legal perspective.
